Exhibition info
"True Identity" at Galleria Uusitalo is my “premiere” solo exhibition in Finland. "True Identity" consists of my recent work. This work illustrates 21st century popular culture - the media, the fashion industry and advertising - using glossy surfaces, billboard effects, caramel colors and cartoon-like characters. The traditional and digital printmaking techniques which are an integral part of my artistic practice also refer to advertising; they use the same methods as printed publications. This allows for the reproduction of single and multiple images in various combinations in my pictures. My works are all hand-crafted collages in which I manipulate and fuse drawings and/or photographs. I have an ongoing interest in the exploration of the figure. The original image can be transformed by placing it in new surroundings creating a new sense of reality - this fascinates me. The works in "True Identity" highlight and focus on the values of Western lifestyles and consumer aesthetics, for example, the issues of multiculturalism and identity in advertising.
